Weed Farm Tour Montego Bay
Jamaica is a place where cannabis, ganja, weed, herbs, (a few names given by the locals) has been deeply embedded in its culture. Thanks to the Rastafarian community, which was popularized by Bob Marley and reggae music, Marijuana use has become a symbol of the country. The Rastafarians took a particular liking to smoking Marijuana which became a part of their spiritual/religious ceremonies and everyday life. Legends like Jimmy Cliff, Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry, Peter Tosh, and of course, Bob Marley, paved the way through songs embracing Jamaica’s ganja culture.
In 2015, the country passed a drug law amended that decriminalizes small amounts of Marijuana for personal use. Under the new law, possession of up to 2 ounces (56 grams) of ganja is a petty offense punishable by a maximum fine of about $5. The law also allows the cultivating of up to five Marijuana plants per household which hopefully is a step closer to full legalization in Jamaica.
Jamaica Marijuana Law
Many Jamaicans are quite excited about the prospect of pot tourism. Under the law, visitors who are ill or have a medical Marijuana prescription from a medical doctor in their home country will be able to purchase a permit at the airport for a few dollars that will allow them to consume marijuana.
Another popular tourism activity in Jamaica is taking a tour of an outdoor Marijuana farm. This tour comes highly recommended and can be coordinated with Neish Island Tour Jamaica – experience Marijuana culture like a true Jamaican!
Make sure to smoke all your herb or gift it to a fellow traveler before you leave the island. NB- it is still illegal and considered drug trafficking to leave the country with Marijuana.
Herb is life….One Love!
